Skyview Radio Society Forms Weather Station Group
Skyview Radio Society's clubhouse and "antenna farm" located in Upper Burrell Township hosts more than 70 members. In existence for more than 44 years, the Amateur Radio club provides public service and a lot of fun with amateur radio.
Robert Bastone, President of Skyview Radio Society in New Kensington, announced that a weather group is being formed within the Skyview Amateur Radio Club.
The focus of the group will be on expanding the club's activities to people who are interested in weather and meteorology. Plans for the group include building a weather station at the Skyview clubhouse with remote access, establishing an EMWIN system (Emergency Management Weather Information Network), tours of weather facilities, talks by weather authorities, and other projects that include weather and communications.
Bastone went on to say that "Our aim is also to assist Emergency Management personal in times of need and make available our local weather data and resources to anyone that might need it. We will participate in the National Weather Service program, SKYWARN and use Amateur Radio, as well as other services for communications.
Persons interested in this weather program are invited to attend the Skyview Weather group's meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at their Clubhouse. The Skyview Radio Society Clubhouse is located at 2335 Turkey Ridge Road, New Kensington, PA 15068.
